The Key to Great Portrait Photography – Putting you at your ease
Portrait photography is more than just capturing a person's likeness; it's about capturing their essence. A great portrait can convey a myriad of emotions, from joy and confidence to vulnerability and introspection. To achieve this, I must must first establish a rapport and create a comfortable environment.
Relaxation is Key
When a subject is relaxed, their natural beauty shines through. They're less likely to tense up or force a smile, resulting in more authentic and captivating portraits. A relaxed subject is also more open to direction and experimentation, allowing the photographer to capture a wider range of expressions and poses.
So how do I put my subjects at ease
I always start by introducing myself and explaining the process in simple terms.
I find casual conversation helps to break the ice and put everyone at ease; and here a little humour can go a long way in easing tension and creating a positive atmosphere.
It’s important not to rush the process. It’s important to me to take time and let each person adjust to the situation.
I always give clear, simple instructions, to avoid confusion.
In this way, what might be an intimidating process, can become easy, perhaps even enjoyable.
Art on the South Coast
A recent trip to Hastings and Bexhill exposed me to some thrilling and vibrant street art. Just had to share these images that were some of my favourites.
